A Family Resemblence

Most people expect that a biological child will bear the likeness of one or both parents. In some cases, the likeness is very strong and there is no doubt that the child belongs to his/her family. However, have you ever had to look a little harder to determine the resemblence or likeness of family members?

There might not be a strong likeness now, as time has passed, but Eliana actually looks a bit like Erica did when she was a baby. When we were first married, both of us dreamed of having a little red-headed girl. It never really became a prayer request, but was something we wished for from time to time. We consider it one of God's "exceeding abundantly" moments in our lives.

As we share this with you, we can't help but ponder our own likenesses. Sure, both of us resemble the members of our family, but we are speaking about our Christ-likeness. "As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied when I awake, with thy likeness" (Psalm 17:15). We both desire to be more Christ-like so that no one has to look harder to see the "family resemblence."
